Start Yachting
Suitable for novices wishing to spend a couple of days on board to experience sailing, either just for pleasure or before embarking on the RYA qualification ladder. No experience necessary.Duration: 2 days.
Course content: The yacht, rope work, underway, rules of the road, man overboard recovery, clothing and equipment, emergency equipment and precautions, meteorology.
Competent Crew
Come along and learn how to be a useful member of crew. No experience necessary. A relaxed course aimed at novices who want to learn and have fun at the same time.Duration: 5 days (or 3 days if you have completed a Start Yachting course with us)
Course content: Knowledge of sea terms and parts of a boat, sail handling, rope work, fire precautions and fighting, personal safety equipment, man overboard, emergency equipment, meteorology, helmsmanship, general duties, manners and customs, rules of the road, dinghies.
Day Skipper
Learn to skipper a short passage with our instructor alongside to advise, encourage and ensure your safety. Be responsible for the yacht from casting off to mooring up!Pre-course experience: 5 days, 100miles & 4 night hours aboard a yacht.
Completion of Day Skipper shore based theory course.
Duration: 5 days
Course content: Preparation for sea, deck work, navigation, pilotage, meteorology, rules of the road, maintenance & repair work, engines, victualling, emergency situations, yacht handling under power, yacht handling under sail, passage making, night cruising.
Coastal Skipper
This course teaches advanced skippering techniques for yachtsmen and women with considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation, wanting to undertake coastal passages by day and by night. Skipper more challenging passages and learn more about passage planning, pilotage and boat handling.Having completed this course, and having attained the requisite mileage, clients should be eligible to sit the Yacht Master Coastal practical examination.
Pre-course experience:
- 15 days, 2 as skipper, 300 miles, and 8 night hours.
- Boat handling to day skipper standard and navigation to shore based coastal.
Duration: 5 days
Course Content: Passage planning, preparation for sea, pilotage, passage making and ability as skipper, yacht handling under power, yacht handling under sail, adverse weather conditions, and emergency situations.
Yacht Master Offshore Preparation
There is no official RYA course with completion certificate, however we offer you the opportunity to come on board and receive tuition to allow you to brush up your skills and prepare for your practical exam. YM Offshore prep courses are usually run in conjunction with YM Coastal courses, so there may be a mix of skills on board.Duration: 5 days

Personalised Tuition
Alternatively, we can tailor a training plan to suit you, with training days to suit you.Book the yacht with our YM Instructor for a half-day skills assessment, he will discuss your requirements and produce a training plan. Book further tuition/training days as and when required until your targets have been achieved and you feel youre ready to sit the Yacht Master Offshore Practical exam.
